Friday, April 30th -  Sheldon Distance Carnival @Sheldon H.S.

The inaugural Sheldon Distance Carnival will be held under the lights, on our brand new Mondo All-Weather track.  The first High School event will start at 5:00pm, and Jr. High School will start at 4:30pm, rain or shine.

The Frosh/Soph Girls, Frosh/Soph Boys, Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys, will have unlimited entries in each division for the 1600m, 3200m, 4x800m & Distance Medley Relay.  There will be 3 entries per school, per division, in the 800m.  We will also have one(1) heat of a JV 800m race, where each school can enter 3 athletes, any combination of male or female, and any grade.  This will be equivalent to a JV race in Cross Country, where coaches will not enter any of their “top 3” who should be entered in their divisional 800m races.

Jr. High School events will be the 800m & 1600m, with unlimited entries.

There will be restrooms, but no locker rooms available, so athletes should come to the meet dressed to compete.
We will provide music, and have a snackbar.   There will be plenty of free parking.

$2 General admission, children 10 & younger are free.

High School entry fee is $135 per team ($40 per division), or $8 per individual.

Jr. High School entry fee is $25 maximum per school, or $3 per individual.

Please make checks payable to Sheldon High School Cross Country.  Checks can be hand delivered on the day of the meet.

There is no pre-entry required for individuals or relay teams prior to the meet.

Spikes must be ¼ inch or smaller to compete on the Mondo track.  We'll have a limited amount of ¼ inch pyramid spikes for sale at the snackbar(8 for $1).  Athletes will be allowed to compete in training shoes or racing flats.
Athletes are asked to check in with the clerk 20 minutes before their scheduled event.  The Clerk will be located on the infield.  Race tags will be provided for each runner in the individual races, and for the anchor leg on relays.  Each race tag must indicate the athlete's name & school.  We don’t plan on making “calls” for each race, so athletes should be ready for their events on schedule.

Warm-ups will be allowed on the infield.
We’ll have monitors at each gate leading to the infield, for movement control across the track, to avoid interfering with races that might be in progress.

All races will have a waterfall start, and a cross country style finish chute.

Awards:  Medals to the 'top 5' finishers in the individual races, and 'top 3' teams in the relays.  If more than 1 heat is necessary, times will be combined to determine the medal winners.  Otherwise, medals will be distributed at the completion of each race.  If there are more than 3 teams in a Relay race, only a school’s "A" team can medal.

Athletes competing in Frosh/Soph individual races will be allowed to compete on Relays in the Varsity division.
It’s anticipated that a 2nd heat will be needed in the F/S Boys and Varsity Boys 800m and 1600m races.  To keep the meet running in a timely manner, the F/S Girls and F/S Boys Distance Medley Relays will be run at the same time, and the F/S Girls and F/S Boys 4x800m Relays will be run at the same time.
