Granite Regional Park cross country course is now available to the running community. The course has been four years in the making and represents the efforts of local running coaches, local development firms of Separovich-Domich, Panattoni Construction, and Granite Construction Company, and the Sacramento City Parks Department.
The course consists of a two mile loop and a one mile loop all run under cottonwood trees around a small lake. It is flat and fast with rolled dirt treated (at considerable expense) with a soil adhesive amendment designed to keep dust to a minimum. The course has three hills on it. It is quite similar to Woodward Park (in Fresno, site of California State HIgh School championships).
The course is centrally located near Highway 50 and Power Inn Road. The two schools in the Delta League farthest from the course are Folsom High School (17.2 miles and 19 minutes away) and Franklin High School (11.9 miles and 24 minutes).
Presently the course is locked up and unavailable without prior arrangement. There is no usage fee but additonal porta-potties must be paid for by the user at $45 per unit. Parking is plentiful. The Sacramento City Parks Dept. contact for reservations and permits is Amanda Roldan (aroldan@cityofsacramento.org).
